RE: Issue with my tow vehicle

Did you hear a "pop" right when you lost power? If so, I agree with SoloF22. Loss of power due to not getting any boost from the turbo. Most likely the result of a hose coming off the intercooler. (If that's the case, I hope you didn't push it too hard as EGT's will get way up there without the turbo.
Best of luck to you.

RE: Stabilizing Side-to-Side Moving in Full-Timer

I installed the JT stabilizers they work very well.
Another vote for JT's.
Just installed mine over the weekend. WOW! what a difference!
Well worth the investment and 3-4 hours to install.
Get them at RV Wholesalers. Best price I found. $299.00 shipped.

RE: RVQs?

I have one (Came with my Jayco) and really have nothing bad to say about it.
Most of the time we use our Weber Q 200 which I wouldn't trade for anything!
Sometimes we need more cooking area then the Weber can provide so I'll use the RVQ in addition for cooking hot dogs or hamburgers. The RVQ is also great for making baked potatos while the steaks are cooking on the Weber.
Unlike others have posted here, mine certainly doesn't have a weak flame. In fact I need to keep it on low or it will burn whatever I'm grilling.
When it's time to replace the RVQ I will get another Weber Q because it's a much better grill for the money. Until then, the RVQ works for me.

RE: Maxxplus portable ice maker

Ok, I have to ask. I have seen posts about ice makers before and now i am going to ask my dumb question. WHAT DO YOU DO WITH ALL THAT ICE??? Do you have coolers? Make huge volumes of drinks? I have a frige that will hold all the beer i can drink in a day. So no need to drag a cooler. If i did bring a cooler, those occasions would be few and far between. with ice costing $1.50/8 lbs. buying, dragging and fussing with an ice maker seems hardly worth it.
Typically there are 6 - 8 of us when we camp. There's no room in the fridge for drinks and 4 - 6 kids drink ALLOT of water, juice, soda etc. so we always have 2 large coolers packed with all the drinks. That requires lots of ice!
On average we'll go through 10-12 bags of ice over the course of 3 days. @ $2.00 - $2.50 a bag it adds up quick. With a portable ice maker we can make and bag enough ice ahead of time to pack the coolers before we leave and it will keep up with them while we're camping.
During a 10 day trip last summer my DW and I kept track of how many bags of ice we bought. The total was 31 bags! @ 2.50 a piece that's over $80.00 with tax. I can think of better ways to spend that 80 bucks, like putting it in my fuel tank.

RE: Maxxplus portable ice maker

Well, Kohls had the Magic Chef Stainless Steel portable ice maker on sale this week for $199. DW had a 30% off coupon so we purchased it yesterday for $140 plus tax.
Brought it home, let it sit for a few hours per the instructions, plugged it in, filled it with water and started it up. Checked an hour later and no ice!
It appears to be going through the ice making cycle but the resevoir stays full. Looks like the water pump is bad. So, it's going back to the store today.
Hopefully I'll have better luck with the next one.

RE: jayco vs coachman...opinions

I've owned both brands and Jayco wins hands down!
Fit/finish on the interior is where I noticed the difference.
After 3 years 2 interior wall panels on my Coachman bowed and had to be refastened. Had to replumb the sink because it always dripped.
Replaced several cabinet door latches because they were cheaply made and broke. Lot's of little things like that over the years. It was still a good camper and served us well. No major problems but the overall quality just wasn't there.
This is my second year with the Jayco and so far no problems at all except one broken handle/latch on the wardrobe sliding glass door.
Not to say my Jayco is constructed like a custom built home, but you don't have to look very hard to see it's a much better product when compared to my Coachmen.
Hope this helps.

RE: fuel milage with new 5th wheel

I agree with George H.
Get the truck broken in first. You should see you MPG go up some once you have 20K or so on it.
As far as the programmer goes. It will give you more power and better MPG's depending on what settings you use.
I installed a Juice Edge with Attitude monitor in my truck and gained about 2 MPG after installation. Also have lots more power when I need it.
Whatever you install, make sure you get a full set of gauges so you can keep your eye on things. EGT's can get way up there especially when pulling a load.
Keep your eye on turbo boost too! Many have blown out the sides of their intercoolers or pop'd the hoses off.
Adding a programmer may void your warranty. I am not too familiar with the Bully Dog but I've heard people say it doesn't leave a trace if you take it out before taking the truck into the dealer for service.
Others have said the dealer can still tell since the on-board computer in your engine records statistics such as Max Boost, Max EGT's etc.. They'll know right away if those numbers exceed what a stock engine can produce.
Best of luck to you and enjoy your new rig!

RE: Black Streaks - Research and the final word?

As many others have said. Reliable works best from my experience.
I bought a used TT a few years ago that had not been used for a couple years. It had aluminum siding and the black streaks were bad!
I tried everything I had in the house, as well as some other products that were so called black streak remover and nothing really worked.
A friend gave me a bottle of Reliable and WOW! what a difference!
The streaks came off with little effort.
Last year I purchased a new 5ver with high gloss gelcoat. Black streaks are no longer a problem and wipe right off even with just a damp cloth. I wax with Nu-Finish a couple times a year which helps.
Try a bottle of Reliable. You'll be glad you did.

Maxxplus portable ice maker

Hi,
Does anybody have this brand?
I can pick one up for $130 including shipping.
Best price I've seen on a portable ice maker. Someone once told me they are all made by the same company. Is that true?
Thanks

RE: trailer to truck electrical cord

You can use a bungee wrapped around the cord a couple times and connect it to the back of the pin box.
That's what I did until I put a connector in the bed.

RE: 2005 Toyota Tundra DC towing a 5th wheel

Thanks to all of you for the help. I was able to find the pin weight for this fifth wheel -- 620lbs. Got the owner to get it weight at the local truck stop. Based on the calculations, I should be okay
Not trying to be negative here but those numbers just don't add up.
4840 lbs. is most likely the weight when it's empty. Even that seems very light but lets say it is. By the time you add batteries, full LP tanks and all your gear your going to be upwards of 6000 lbs. (that doesn't include water if you plan on boondocking which adds up fast @ 8lbs a gallon)Avg. pin weight on a 5th wheel is 20%. could be a little more or a little less but it's definitely going to be more then 620lbs. I'd guess more like 1000 - 1200 lbs loaded.
Check the numbers yourself. The weights should be listed on a sticker on the outside of the 5ver as well as posted inside. Usually on the back of a cabinet door. If all else fails, check with the manufacturer.
Best of luck to you!

Lake George RV Park

We are planning on booking a week at Lake George RV Park.
Does anyone recommend one area of the park over others?
We'd like a shaded site off the beaten path if such an area exists there.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You!
